Satsop Nuclear Project: When Vision Meets Reality

The Satsop Nuclear Project represents one of the largest unfinished infrastructure projects in U.S. history. Conceived during a period of rapidly growing energy demand, the project reflected extraordinary engineering ambition, but changing economic conditions, declining electricity forecasts, and escalating construction costs ultimately halted its completion.

This Eos Astraeus® field study combines aerial imagery with an engineering perspective to examine the scale of the facility and the broader lessons it offers in infrastructure planning, project management, and long-term decision-making. Rather than focusing solely on what remains, this project explores how complex engineering initiatives evolve when technical vision, economics, and public policy intersect.
